CENTER-RIGHT LEADER BERLUSCONI PROPOSES A LAW ON IMMIGRATION
Premier D'Alema and Berlusconi in disagreement
over immigrants
Berlusconi considers
his proposal similar to the laws on immigration already
in effect in the rest of Europe, but Premier D'Alema defines
them a folly that will turn Italy away from Europe and
deems Berlusconi's proposal absolutely unacceptable. He
further states that the proposal is an "appeal to egotism
and isolation "
The drastic measures proposed that envisage the use
of force against stowaway ships not only arises the indignation
of the left wing, but also creates embarrassment within
the right-wing.
CEI, the Episcopal Conference, criticized the bill of
law and said that it's only a means trying to gain votes
in the coming regional elections.
Forza Italia leader Berlusconi said that " we are in
the middle of a mystification festival and that the fear
of losing the elections is going to the left-wing's head"
Berlusconi and Lega Nord leader, Umberto Bossi have
decided to collect signatures to approve the bill.
Alleanza Nazionale is about to protest against clandestine
immigration, but it is not going to join Forza Italia
and the Lega Nord. However, Alleanza Nazionale leader,
Fini, attacks the Premier and accuses him of being crazy
and goes on to say that D'Alema's folly will give rise
to a wave of xenophobia.
The catholic Ppi totally disagrees with the proposal
and states that a 'national community should understand
the uneasiness of other people and express solidarity".
