DIALOGUE HEADED BY PANNELLA
The Premier's statements in an interview
on the coming elections
I n an interview
to the daily La Repubblica Premier D'Alema says that the
time has come to take up the dialogue with the Radicals
to stop the anti-modern right-wing and vote in favour
of the referendum and prevent a return to the old proportional
system represented by right-wing leader Berlusconi and
Lega Nord leader Bossi,
The Premier believes that right-wing proposals are a
threat to the country and that the left must unite and
aim on the essential objectives to modernize politics
and institutions.
So far jokes, insults and personal offenses have led
the electoral campaign. In fact, the Premier said that
there are two parallel campaigns. One of them regards
the direct election of regional presidents and this must
be the focus of the campaign because the new order of
the regions is an integrating part of the reform of the
State.
The second campaign is the one led by Berlusconi who,
according to the Premier, is only rehearsing for the political
elections. This campaign focuses entirely on anticipating
the elections and on Berlusconi himself.
The Premier believes that Berlusconi's policy is conservative
and only aims at fighting communism and restoring the
privileges of the old Christian Democracy.
In a week's time we shall know the choices of the electors.
There is fear, however, that abstention may be very high.
