POLICE CHIEF RESIGNS
Mr.Masone head of nation's police force officially resigned for personal reasons.
On Friday May 26 the government replaced the head of police force, Mr.Fernando Masone by Mr. Gianni De Gennaro, a close friend and colleague of Giovanni Falcone, the anti-Mafia prosecutor killed in an aggression in 1992.
Mr.De Gennaro headed the probe that led to the arrest of Giovanni Brusca, Falcone's killer.
Premier Amato denied any link between Masone's resignation and the press leak that brought to the arrest of Alessandro Geri in the investigation on the assassination of Massimo D'Antona, a government aide.
Mr.Masone will now head Cesis, the organization that coordinates Sismi and Sisde, Italy's two intelligence services.
