The Shroud that is purported to have been the burial garment after the crucifixion and that is said to bear the image of Christ will be on public display from 18 April to 14 June this year. The next opportunity to see the cloth will be in the Jubilee year of 2000. In an attempt to establish its authenticity, the Shroud (the Santa Sindone in Italian) was subjected to carbon 14 testing in 1988 which dated it to mediaeval times. The Church accepted this scientific verdict, although doubts were later cast on it by a Russian scientist who dated it back to the first century AD.
The Church still reiterates the sacred value of the Shroud which will be on display in the cathedral of Turin. To book a visit and receive a ticket at your e-mail address, contact this site
