JUVENTUS-GALATASARAY SOCCER MATCH "PEACEFUL"
Game in Istanbul may turn out alright.
The European Champions League soccer match between Italy's Juventus and Turkey's Galatasaray has been postponed for a week, due to tension between the two countries after the Ocalan affair.
Many Juventus players had refused to play in Istanbul last week, saying they were afraid of reprisals. Team officials had asked for the match to be transferred to neutral territory.
UEFA, the European soccer governing body has
decide to postpone the game for a week, and it will now be played in Istanbul 2nd December.
Italian players and commentators are still surprised by the decision to go ahead in Turkey, with heated tempers and a lot of anti-Italian sentiment still being felt.
Turkish hospitality is well-known, and there are believed to be 20,000 police ready to turn out on the day.
It is hoped that these measures will avoid ugly incidents, although soccer will probably not be the first thing on fans' minds.
