WHO WAS MASSIMO D'ANTONA?
The
killers did not "fire at random"
Lecturer in employment law at "La Sapienza" University in Rome, Massimo D'Antona was Employment Minister Bassolino's closest adviser. He had worked with the Minister for a reform of Italian labor law, as well as all the important developments in this field in the last few years.
D'Antona was an acknowledged expert on the labor market and the juridical aspects of collective bargaining, subjects on which he wrote some definitive papers in the specialist journals.
Politically speaking, D'Antona was very close to the position of the Democratic Left, and was a member of the CGIL labor union conference.
He was not widely known amongst the general public, nor was he targeted because he was an important politician. Rather, he was singled out because he was such an important figure within the Italian political and union labyrinth.
Massimo D'Antona, 51, leaves a widow and three children.
